When beachgoers fantasize about the ideal length of powdery sand caressed by turquoise waters, they’re usually dreaming about the Bahamas. This tropical paradise, which spans the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The islands, which were once a home for pirates and Loyalists, are today a playground for the wealthy and famous, as well as anybody who likes world-class fishing, boating, diving, snorkeling, and sailing. The Out Islands, which make up the rest of the Bahamas, are separated into groups, each with its own personality and charm. The Abacos and Exumas, draped like pearls over the shallow Bahama Banks, provide some of the best boating and sailing waters in the world. Many of the islands’ shores are bordered by flowering coral reefs, and they are studded with peaceful fishing villages and calm beaches.
Atlantis Paradise Island
In a luxury hotel, entertainment complex, aquarium, and water park, this splashy, salmon-pink resort, which dominates the skyline on Paradise Island, evocatively recreates the mythology of Atlantis. One of the most popular things to do on Paradise Island spends a day in this quirky waterscape. Ride high-speed slides like the Leap of Faith, swim in more than 20 pools, or sit back and relax on the Lazy River Ride. Hammerhead sharks and swordfish swim through sparkling open-air pools in the Atlantis Bahamas marine habitat. There are also numerous shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues in this area. The fantasy sea theme underlies all of the Atlantic attractions, captivating the imaginations of both children and adults.
Nassau
Nassau, Bahamas, one of the most popular cruise ship ports in the Caribbean, manages to attract visitors despite the hordes of camera-toting tourists. You’ll be spoilt for choice if you’re seeking things to do in Nassau. Relax on the white sands of Cable Beach, visit the downtown and Bay Street shops, restaurants, museums, and candy-colored colonial buildings, and browse the Nassau Straw Market for souvenirs. Animal lovers can swim with dolphins on a day trip to Blue Lagoon Island, just a short catamaran ride from Nassau, and Ardastra Gardens, Zoo, and Conservation Center is a fun place to visit for families, with endangered and threatened species set among four acres of tropical gardens.
Long Island
Long Island, one of the most beautiful islands in the Bahamas, is located in the southern part of the archipelago, off the usual path. Long Island is perfect for people who appreciate a natural setting. The island, which is over 130 kilometers long and only seven kilometers broad, is a region of contrasts, with sandy beaches on the west and high, rocky cliffs on the east. Long Island is a fishing, diving, and boating paradise. Its numerous gorgeous, unspoiled pink- and white-sand beaches are also ideal for beachgoers. Dean’s Blue Hole, the world’s deepest known saltwater blue hole, is also located on the island.
