Shericka Jackson is moving very fast in the 100 meters this season and only the infamous Sha’Carri Richardson has been able to catch her. The women’s 100 meters continues to be the premiere event in Track and Field. Since five-time World Champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce became the first Caribbean woman to run sub10.7 in the event at the 2021 Olympic Destiny Series in Kingston, Jamaica, more women have been forced to run sub11 in the 100 meters.
The Jamaican trio of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Elaine Thompson-Herah, and Shericka Jackson have taken over the event by sweeping all the medals at both the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and the 2022 Eugene World Championships.
More women have become somewhat fearful of Jamaican women because of their dominance, and no one has been brave enough to challenge these three women.
Recently, athletes such as Marie Josee Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast and Sha’Carri Richardson of the United have been running in the 10.7 seconds region but have never beaten the Jamaican women when it matters.
So far this season the most dominant Jamaican woman over the 100 meters has been Shericka Jackson who ran 10.82 seconds to win the thirteenth edition of the Velocity Fest in Kingston. Since then, she ran her first international 100 meters at the Doha Diamond League when she finished a surprising second with 10.85 seconds. Sha’Carri Richardson won that race in the world’s fastest time this year at 10.76 seconds, making fans question if Richardson is a threat to the Big Three from Jamaica. Having been defeated by Sha’Carri Richardson, Shericka Jackson has been determined to run even faster and is expected to do so at the Racers Grand Prix on June 3rd.
The Racers Grand Prix is returning after three seasons since its last edition and fans are most excited about the women’s 100 meters. The event has two Heats then a Final.
The top two athletes from each Heat are expected to qualify for the Final along with the next four fastest athletes based on time.
