‘Secret’ Caribbean Islands

Guana Island is a Caribbean island in the British Virgin Islands. Guana has seven white powder-sand beaches and 850 acres of tropical forest, mountains, hills, and valleys, making it one of the few remaining privately-owned islands in its part of the world. There is a small resort on the island, which is mostly a nature preserve.

This British Virgin Island’s 850 acres are home to more than 50 birds, 14 reptiles, and 200 plant and insect species, not to mention the countless sea creatures that call its waters home. This allows visitors to walk through the tropical forests, seven beaches, and sugar plantation ruins.

Isla Holbox

Isla Holbox is a Mexican island located north of the Yucatán Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo. It’s part of the Yum Balam Nature Reserve, and the Yalahau Lagoon, which is home to flamingos and pelicans, separates it from the mainland. Sea turtles and whale sharks abound on the car-free island, which lies between the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. The laid-back Holbox Village and Punta Coco Beach are highlighted.

Despite its proximity to the always-bustling Riviera Maya, this 25-mile-long island off Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula has managed to remain sleepily unspoiled.
