Miss World Caribbean Beauty Candidates 2024 Crown

Since its inception in 1951, the Miss World pageant has evolved into a global phenomenon, transcending the boundaries of beauty to emphasize the importance of intelligence, compassion, and humanitarian efforts. The pageant brings together women from various countries to compete in categories such as swimsuits, evening gowns, and talent and ultimately crowns one woman as Miss World.

Caribbean region emerges as a dynamic force within this global stage, contributing contestants who embody the warmth, resilience, and vibrant cultures of their homelands. These women from the Caribbean bring forth a unique blend of charisma and advocacy, adding an extra layer of richness to the Miss World experience.

In the episode of Caribbean Focus, we highlight the stunning Caribbean women representing the various Caribbean Islands in this year’s Miss World Pageant Competition. 

Miss World Cayman Islands:  Leanni Tibbetts

Our first competitor representing the Caribbean is Ms. Leanni Tibbetts, who was crowned Miss World Cayman Islands. The 25-year-old aviation management graduate is a pilot and sub-lieutenant at the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps. Apart from winning her 

national title, she was also awarded Miss Photogenic, Best in Sports, Best in Island Couture, and Best in Interview.

Ms. Tibbets recently joined Cayman Airways as a pilot after completing the Cayman Airways’ rigorous recruitment and training program to become the newest First Officer on the airline’s Twin Otter fleet.

The new Miss World Cayman Islands is also an environmental conservation advocate who lives by the saying “Be the change” and she intends to use her platform to empower women, especially those in abusive situations, and to highlight environmental initiatives.

Miss World Guyana: Andrea King

Our next contestant is from down south. Ms. Andrea King will represent the beautiful country of Guyana at this year’s Miss World. The 25-year-old contestant is a project manager at Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) and has engaged actively in her local community in Guyana. 

In her interview segment and dedication speech, she reflected on her “Beauty With A Purpose” project, PROJECT FLO which seeks to increase financial literacy amongst school children to help them make more intelligent, more effective financial decisions. Her incredibly moving and impactful speech won over the audience to crown her Miss World Guyana. 

Miss World Puerto Rico: Elena Rivera

Swinging back up to the North of the Caribbean, we have the Spanish-speaking queen from Puerto Rico, Ms. Elena Rivera. At just 19 years old, she will be one of the youngest contestants at this year’s Miss World, but the young contestant has committed to giving it everything she has. Elena Rivera is a fashion model and also an owner of Perla Vintage Clothing store, which is a handpicked Vintage piece store that ships to the United States and all around Puerto Rico.

Miss World Belize: Elise-Gayonne Vernon

Moving to the most westerly of Caribbean countries, we go to the only English-speaking Central American country of Belize. Belize will be represented at Miss World 2022 by the beautiful Ms. Elise-Gayonne Vernon. Ms Vernon is a young 21-year-old farmer and a certified beekeeper coming from humble roots in Biscayne Village in the Belize District.

Ms Vernon, who spent a large portion of her training for the pageant in San Pedro Town, shares that her goal is to inspire others, especially young persons interested in farming. The young farmer also reiterated her intention to engage in feeding programs to help improve food security in her country. She explained that such a project would involve small farming communities joining forces to help provide for those in need. 

Miss World Guadeloupe: Marie Hatchi

Going back to the mainland Caribbean, or “mainsea” rather, we have the wonderful Ms. Marie Hatchi who will be representing the small islands of Guadeloupe. After completing a Masters in Midwifery and Health Science, the 27-year-old Marie began working as a Childcare Assistant in maternity and nursery.

Her ambition is to open a daycare Centre primarily for deaf children and create an association that aims to promote French Sign Language. To this end, she is a student in French Sign Language and is continuing her professional experience in child care. Outside of her love for children and childcare, she has a passion for aikido, running and is a proficient sewer. We look forward to seeing her compete. 

Miss World Martinique: Axelle Rene 

Next up on our list, we have another French territory going to India, hailing from the other smaller island of Martinique, we have Ms. Axelle Rene. The 22-year-old just from Le Robert, is completing her master’s degree in Planetary Geoscience and hopes to prevent natural risks, more particularly those related to volcanoes by working in a seismology and volcanology observatory. Born in Martinique, Miss Rene is currently in the Paris metropolis pursuing her studies and hopes to return back to her island. 

Miss World Curaçao: Nashaira Belisa Balentien

Moving along, we have another small island country, this time in the south of the Caribbean. Represented the island of Curacao, we have Ms. Nashaira Belisa Balentien. Nashaira Belisa Balentien is 25 years of age and is a philanthropist, entrepreneur, and future lawyer. Not new to the pageantry, Nashaira previously held the title Miss Universe Curacao 2017. She went on to represent Curacao in Miss Universe 2017 which was held in the USA but unfortunately failed to place in the Top 16. But this has not discouraged her from taking on the Miss World Challenge this year.

Nashaira is quite passionate about giving back to society. She started a foundation in 2013 through which she has been organizing projects in Curacao, Colombia, and some other African countries. Pageant House Limited, her own company, is actively involved in philanthropy through the foundation.

Miss World Dominican Republic: Maria Victoria Bayo Martinez

We highlight next the most visited country in the Caribbean, and one whose immeasurable beauty is reflected in its contestant, Ms. Maria Victoria Bayo Martinez for the Dominican Republic. The 24-year-old is currently finishing a Degree in Business Administration and International Business while also studying to be a Pilot. 

Outside of school, she is very passionate about her project ‘Education through Sports’ to help motivate younger people from disadvantaged areas to try and make a life for themselves. This passion for sports stems from her being a professional volleyball player, as well as playing golf, and soccer, and is an avid baseball fan.

Miss World Haiti: Valierie Alcide

On the other side of the island our previous contestant shares, we have the stunning woman that is Miss World Haiti, Ms. Valierie Alcide. At just 28, Miss Alcide wears many hats, as the Head of Recovery Services for the National Port Authority, a Model, and a Talent Agency Founder. Valierie is passionate about acting and comedy and undertook her first degree in Theatre Studies. She played in two feature films, “Machann fig la”, a film produced by Ciné Institute, and “I Got Next Productions” where she played the main role.

She then went on to gain a second degree in Diplomacy and International Relations. She has become involved in campaigns as a volunteer in several organizations and social movements because she is convinced that serving people is the noblest work of life. She has also set up her own company ‘connecting business owners and entrepreneurs with new generations to educate, inspire and empower.’ 

Miss World Jamaica: Shanique Singh

Moving to possibly the most famous Caribbean country, we have the land of wood and water, Jamaica, which will be represented by Ms. Shanique Singh. Shanique held the title of Miss Howard Johnson Reality as she competed at the national competition. The 25-year-old won two fast-track events before winning the national crown; she won the Serengeti Talent Fast Track Event with her performance of traditional Indian dance and she also won the Fort Clarence Beach Beauty Event.

Shanique Singh hails from Old Harbour in St. Catherine, attended Marlie Mount Primary School, and graduated from Ardenne High School. The stunning Jamaican beauty is a student at the University of the West Indies studying medicine and surgery and plans to become an obstetrician-gynaecologist.

Ms. Singh, who is of Afro-Indian ethnicity, has some big shoes to fill as she will be following in the footsteps of Toni-Ann Singh who was crowned Miss World back in 2019. 

Miss World Trinidad and Tobago: Aché Abrahams

And finally, we have the Twin Island Republic and the population giant of Trinidad and Tobago. Ms Aché Abrahams who will be representing Trinidad and Tobago is a 23-year-old creative artist, a mental health advocate, and a social activist. She also works as a model and is also the marketing and social media manager for her family’s construction company.

The young beauty was not always this confident, however, recalling in her speech that she recalled entering her first pageant, Miss Beauty Plus, at age 1, dropped out when her insecurities got the better of her. Abrahams said one of her objectives when entering the Miss World pageant was to use it as a launching pad for her Safe Space project – a cause created with her 14-year-old self in mind, and as a way to support young people who feel insecure in themselves at this young age. 

Big Shoes to Fill 

These wonderful Caribbean ladies have Big Shoes to Fill, as the Caribbean has done remarkably well at the Miss World Competition in the past and as recently as 2019 when Toni-Ann Singh from Jamaica was crowned as Miss World 2019, became the fourth Jamaican woman to win the title. 

She went on to advocate for a number of important causes. One of the main issues that she focused on was education, and she worked to promote the importance of education and access to education for children around the world. 

Singh also spoke out about the importance of gender equality and the need to empower women and girls. In addition to these issues, Singh also focused on mental health awareness and the importance of addressing mental health issues. Throughout her time as Miss World, Singh worked to raise awareness about these issues and to encourage others to take action to make a positive impact on the world.

In addition to a Caribbean winner in 2019, there was also Stephanie Del Valle was also crowned Miss World in 2016 and was the second woman from Puerto Rico to win the title, following in the footsteps of Wilnelia Merced, who won the Miss World crown in 1975. 

The singer, model, and beauty queen grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and participated in various talent shows and music competitions throughout her childhood. Miss World Puerto Rico impressed judges with her beauty, talent, and poise and she went on to advocate for female empowerment during her reign. Del Valle also used her time as Miss World to pursue her musical career. She released a number of successful singles and performed at various events around the world.
