The Cayman Islands are located in the Caribbean sea. Made up of 3 beautiful Islands, it’s a place that is no less than a fairytale. From the gorgeous scenery and rich wilderness to golden sandy beaches and exciting watersports activities, it offers plenty of things to tourists. If you want to learn about the art, craft, as well as cultural and historical side of the island, then Cayman’s exciting festivals will help you. These fun festivals are great events to celebrate and enjoy with locals. In these festivals, one can explore the traditions and heritage that have distinguished Grand Cayman from the other places in the world. I have put together 3 fun festivals on the island, which will allow you to feel the vibe of the island.
Cayman’s annual Mardi Gras
Celebrations start from the last Saturday before Ash Wednesday. The popular things to do at the festival include a lively float parade which starts a Head O’ Bay and after reaching Edward Bodden Airfield, the parade comes to an end. This festival is usually celebrated on the last week of February, with a full swing when travelers and locals join each other on the beautiful Cayman Island. People usually come from the far flong regions of Cayman Brac and Grand Caym, along with the locals, they love to dance and celebrate. All musicians and performers participate in the masquerade ball and dinner, following the procession.
Cayman Islands Orchid Show
On the weekend of March 27 and 28, the orchid lovers come together to appreciate the beautiful blooms on exhibit through the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park with planned fundraising. Visitors to this festival can discover the pleasing scents, vibrant colors, and fascinating backstories of some of the rarest and most exotic orchids during the event. In addition to a lovely showcase of hundred of orchids, this two-day festival also includes a fund, raising orchid sale, live music, food, and different educational talks to help educate the orchid enthusiasts. The Orchid Festival and fundraising are organized annually with the help of the Cayman Islands Orchid Society. Plus, the exhibition which displays hundreds of orchids in bloom comes from several Cayman Island’s Orchid Society members. Not all orchids come from the Botanical garden, some of them are usually bought from Florida and Jamaica.
Cayfest
Cayfest is a 2-week festival celebrated on the Cayman Islands in April, which showcases the Grand Cayman through visual art, live music, theatrical performance, film, fashion, and culture. The festival lets participants enjoy the locally produced films and concerts by musicians, as well as arts and craft shows. The festival starts at Seven Mile Beach with a reenactment of a traditional boat launch. In George Town, you’ll take part in open-air events with local brands, delicious cuisines, artworks and crafts, and other illustrations of local talents, including song and culinary competitions.
