The term “Vegano” refers to the province where this activity takes place, which is located in the country’s northwestern region, about two hours from Santo Domingo and four hours from Punta Cana. Since 1510, this long-established festival has combined Spanish mythology and stories with African manifestations of gods, all of which have come together and enhanced the celebration. Currently, the Vegano Carnival is held every Sunday in February, ending on February 27th, the Dominican Republic’s proclamation of independence. The Carnival Vegano theme focused on the victory of good over evil, and it began as a religious activity to commemorate the time shortly before Lent. This event has grown in recent years to incorporate the annual commemoration of Dominican independence on February 27. Carnivals are held on weekends throughout February, and they have expanded to most provinces, although El Carnaval de la Vega remains the largest of them all. Music, costumes, food, beverages, and other elements combine to create a colorful and energetic celebration of the island’s customs and culture. A pageant to choose Miss Carnaval Vegano the coronation of the festival’s king an opening parade; a concert every Sunday with prominent performers; and a closing parade are just a few of the activities that take place throughout the festival. caribbeanCarnival Vegano in the Dominican RepublicDominican Republic 0 comment 0 FacebookTwitterPinterestEmail Jirie Caribbean previous post Important Fact about the Dominican Republic next post Tostones Recipe, Dominican Republic Savoring Tradition: Cassava Dumplings with a Cheesy Twist November 10, 2023 Discovering Paradise: Dominican Republic’s Top 5 Beaches November 8, 2023 Top 5 Amazing Things to Do in the...
