Every year, from October 27 to October 31, the Barbados Food and Rum Festival commemorates the island’s rum heritage. Rum is a 40% alcohol alcoholic beverage manufactured from local sugar cane. Thousands of Rum and gastronomy fans go to the event to sample the distinct flavors of local food and revel in the festive ambiance of the Caribbean.

One of the pleasures of visiting the Caribbean is the opportunity to try some outstanding rums. The Barbados Food and Rum Festival is a fantastic way to learn about Barbados rum while sampling some of the greatest Caribbean cuisines. Barbados is rapidly promoting itself as a gastronomic destination. The Barbados Food and Rum Festival’s theme was ‘The Story of Rum from Then to Now,’ which combined rum with delicious Bajan cuisine.

From street sellers to wonderful beach cuisine to luxury dining of the greatest standard, there is something for everyone. The cuisine events take place at various locations around the island, with Bajan eateries producing unique menus for the four days. These will be published on the event website in the coming weeks, but expect lobster and a lot of fresh seafood. Flying fish and cou cou salt bread, fish cakes, breadfruit, and dessert will all be creatively interpreted traditional local delicacies.

Try the mature Barbados rums, as a personal recommendation. A single malt rum is similar to an ancient rum. It doesn’t require any embellishment. Simply relax in a comfy chair, let the world go by, and savor the caravan of tastes as the rum passes through your mouth. This four-day festival of eating and drinking Barbadian tastes begins at the renowned Oistins Fish Market and continues throughout the island to beaches, hotels, and even a themed Polo match.
