Sir Viv Richards’ roots shoot up from the islands of Antigua, and cricket is immensely popular on the islands. His achievement includes scoring 8,540 runs in 121 Test matches and 5 centuries in World series cricket between the year 1977-1979. His favorite hangout spot in Antigua is Sea Breeze restaurant, and while dining, you may just have a chance to see him in person.

Antigua Has a Peak Named After President Obama

The island’s highest peak, formerly titled Boggy Peak, was affectionately changed into Mount Obama in 2009 to celebrate Obama’s historic win to the presidency. Antigua’s Everest rises to 1,1319 ft over the island’s southern point. It’s worth exploring, with dense trees that make it a popular hiking spot. Throughout National Park, you’ll find several trails being created around the northern side of Christian Valley. Due to its high rise in the sky, it serves as a transmission site. During the colonial period, the hills were treated as sugarcane plantation farms.

In Antigua, There are No Rivers

Yes, you heard it right, throughout the entire islands you won’t find any rivers and lakes. Having no lakes and rivers leads to droughts frequently, in spite of the mean annual rainfall of 40 inches. Surprisingly, this island has no forests and mountains, which sets it apart from other Leeward islands. Plus, you won’t find snakes in Antigua, except for the Antiguan Racer. Antiguan Racer happens to be the rarest snake in the world, though has only ever been found on Antigua’s Bird Island.

Antigua is famous as “the land of 365 beaches”

“One beach for every day of the year, ” this is actually what Antigua is famous for. The islands house some of the most gorgeous beaches in the Caribbean. Head to Dennis restaurant, which offers hot sauce, and it’s loved by locals and tourists alike.

The island is small

One of the best things regarding small islands is that you can walk over more grounds in less time, which means you will return home feeling like you haven’t missed anything. In Antigua, visitors can drive across the islands as many times as they want in just one day.
Around 108 square miles, and 17 km across, it won’t be difficult to cover the island, whether you decide to hire a local cab or take out a rental vehicle. You can easily move from one place to another and having that kind of experience is something you’ll appreciate. In short, all you take is a week or two to explore the whole island, though you can stay here for longer if you’d like!
