Diamond Falls, St. Lucia
The Diamond Falls is situated on a six-acre, multi-award-winning tourism site called Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens. The area and the falls are described as attractive, alluring, and a peaceful retreat from the outside world. You will enjoy the sultry warmth of beautiful, tropical, and lush flora. The Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens are also a haven for birds and insects, which deliver the majesty of nature and its unique experiences.
The water of the Diamond Falls is very rich in minerals picked up from running through volcanic rocks. These minerals give the falls a colorful appearance that constantly changes depending on the mineral concentration in the water. La Mina Falls, Puerto Rico
Getting to the La Mina Falls requires a 25-minute walk, a picnic basket, and of course your swimwear. Near these falls are several covered picnic shelters (built of native stone by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930’s). The trail to La Mina Falls is very popular in Puerto Rico. According to the USDA Forest Service; “the trail follows the course of the La Mina River, a designated Wild and Scenic River, downward through lush tropical trees, shrubs and flowers to the La Mina waterfall (Cascada La Mina). Cascada La Mina (La Mina Falls) is an exquisite waterfall that drops over 35 feet through a jumble of huge rocks into a lovely pool where hikers can choose to swim in the cool refreshing water or merely rest and enjoy the view. Water temperature is 60 – 65 degrees F.” Exploring the rainforest along the trail is a beautiful sight on its own but the reward of seeing and swimming in La Mina! Bring your water shoes and get in the water!
YS Falls, Jamaica
YS Falls offers the opportunity to experience the splendor of the waterfalls surrounded by lush gardens and magnificent trees. There are seven waterfalls, several of which cascade over large boulders and into natural pools. It is a popular vacationer site so there are lifeguards to indicate which areas are for swimming. YS Falls hosts a natural pool, sourced from underground and above-ground springs. There are pools suitable for children to swim so a visit to these falls can be a family vacation activity.
Kaieteur Falls, Guyana
For the thrill-seekers, the Kaieteur falls the world’s largest single drop waterfall with a 123-meter drop. This waterfall is not for swimming or diving but the sight of this world wonder will more than compensate for that. The sight of this waterfall can be overwhelming because of its size, surrounded by untouched forest. Kaieteur Falls is situated on the Potaro River in the Kaieteur National Park, within a section of the Amazon rainforest included in a region of Guyana. To get to the water giant, it’s an all-day excursion where you must hire a private charter flight to fly into the small Kaieteur airstrip in the middle of the jungle. The flight from Ogle Airport in Georgetown is about 90 minutes one way. Wear sturdy shoes to visit Kaieteur Falls, as there are uneven pathways to navigate between the three lookout points.
