It is one of Jamaica’s oldest and least-commercialized tourist destinations, as well as one of the island’s main ports and a shipping hub for bananas, coconuts, and cocoa. It is located on a bay that is split into East and West harbours by a promontory. A small Navy Island protects the West Harbour. There are beautiful beaches nearby, as well as great deep-sea fishing, sailing, and skin diving, particularly at Blue Hole Lagoon. Many individuals come to compete in sportfishing during the annual Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament. The Folly Ruins, the deteriorating remnants of a Roman-style mansion erected by an American tycoon at the start of the twentieth century, are a very bizarre intrusion into this tropical paradise. Some of Port Antonio’s tourism attractions are discussed.
Blue Mountain Bicycle Tour
The Blue Mountains of Jamaica, known for its world-renowned coffee, are also home to one of the island’s most genuine tours: the Blue Mountain Bicycle Tour. Come experience authentic Jamaican hospitality while being guided on a cultural journey by qualified guides. The trip east takes us through historical landmarks, banana farms, and small marketplaces, offering clients a taste of life in the countryside. Most visitors to the island do not notice this site. The first visit will be for a superb Jamaican breakfast at an open-air restaurant. Clients will be given a quick overview of the day’s events before being fitted with their safety gear.
Reach Falls From Ocho Rios
Reach Falls, located near Portland, Jamaica, is one of the most spectacular natural waterfalls on the island. It is blissfully nestled in the midst of an unique virgin jungle. It’s about an hour and a half journey from Ocho Rios, Jamaica, to Portland, near the eastern end of the island. This is an absolutely stunning location. The water is very clear, cold, and pleasant. The falls are surrounded by vines and natural bamboo. Plant species that you won’t find anywhere else in the world can be found here. The trek and swims up the river are breathtaking. If you go beneath the waterfalls, you’ll notice concealed holes cut out by the water. You may even enter into a secret cave behind one of the falls and walk out right above the waterfall.
Rio Grande Bamboo Rafting
Every day of the week, the Rio Grande Rafting Tour is accessible. Each raft can accommodate two people and one little child. The tour starts at “Rafters Rest” and takes you down one of Jamaica’s longest rivers for a 2 to 3-hour journey. Visitors should dress comfortably for this excursion and bring swimsuits, a towel, and sunscreen. Phone coverings that are waterproof would also be useful. Bamboo rafts were first used to move fruit, particularly bananas, from Portland’s interior to the coast for export. Errol Flynn, an actor, promoted bamboo rafting for recreational purposes. Today, Rio Grande River Rafting is one of Port Antonio’s most famous tourist attractions. While you rest and take in the splendor of Portland, an experienced, certified Raft Captain will carry you down the river. Your Captain may regale you with local legends and facts about the area’s ecology and animals. The rafts are built of long bamboo logs that are joined together to form a raft that is approximately 4 feet wide and 25 to 30 feet long. Passengers are seated on an elevated “loveseat” or “lounge chair,” which is also constructed of bamboo.
